“Český Krumlov, the little jewel box of a city in southern Bohemia.” — Laini Taylor
It’s no surprise that this small town in Southern Bohemia is recognized as one of the most charming places in all of Europe. Český Krumlov is a UNESCO World Heritage Site — and one you’ll definitely want to add to your travels.
Only about a three-hour drive from Salzburg, I booked a private tour through Viator from Salzburg to Prague, with a wonderful stop in the picturesque medieval town of Český Krumlov.

Our guide, Gabriel, was so lovely. She gave us a fantastic tour, sharing all kinds of interesting tidbits about her beloved hometown. We visited St. Vitus Church, wandered the historic town center, and explored the breathtaking Český Krumlov Castle.
After the tour, we snacked on some delicious homemade crepes at Creperie, then spent time wandering the old town square and charming alleyways until it was time to leave.

This tiny village felt absolutely magical. There was something about the friendly locals, the winding cobblestone streets, and the river running through the center of town that made you want to stay just a little longer.

Travel Tips for Women Over 60
- Wear comfortable shoes — the cobblestone streets are beautiful but uneven.
- Plan for some hills and steps around the castle; take your time and enjoy the views.
- Stop at a café or bakery — the perfect way to rest and soak in the charm.
- Visit in spring or fall when crowds are smaller, and the scenery is especially lovely.
- Book a private guide if you can — their stories and insights bring the town to life.

If you’re visiting the Czech Republic and looking for a perfect day trip, Český Krumlov should be on your itinerary. For women traveling solo or with friends, this town is a gentle reminder that adventure has no age limit.
